Ready for an amazing summer BBQ backyard grilling, crowd pleaser everybody loves, easy-drinking jammy red wines…. I’ve got one.
Elquii Wines of Elqui Valley, Chile. Per Wikipedia, Elqui Valley – one of Chile’s northernmost wine regions – is located just 29° south of the Equator. It is considered the most commercially viable wine-producing region of northern Chile. Wine production began in the Elqui Valley in the 1990s.
The region has clay, silt and chalk soil, and is characterized by a sunny, desert-like climate. To me this suggests very ripe and jammy wines.
3 grapes paired together is not unusual. GSM, common for Grenache- Syrah -Mourvedre grapes, a classic combination. This combination replaces the Grenache for Carménère.
Carménère is now considered the national grape of Chile. It pairs well with light red meat dishes and BBQs, but it wasn’t always so well known by the wine drinkers of the world. Carménère was born in Bordeaux as a blending grape. It brings a lot of jammy fruit with a good acid tannin balance.
This wine was a very light easy-drinking product. Very light tannin and acid, so easy drinking for the backyard party which wouldn’t be disliked by anyone.
The color is a deep rich burgundy black wine. Cannot see through this wine because it’s so rich. The flavors reflect that deep rich color and are of a deep rich ripe fruit. I tasted a light spice, plum, light blackcurrant, and jammy black rape fruit. Very light tanning and medium acid.
Easy, easy drinking, and would pair great with any backyard picnic food. Could easily drink this all summer at a picnic.
To get some of this wine, it’s brought in by Akron’s Bottle-2 Glass, which I now represent. Contact me in order to have it at your local retailer at a retail price of $16.50 in Ohio.
